A second step at sign-in, using a code from your phone.
Even if someone learns your password, they cannot sign in without your device.

Install an authenticator app
Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, Authy,
or the built-in one in 1Password and Bitwarden. Any of them works.
Scan the QR code — or paste the setup key
Your app will start showing a 6-digit code that changes
every 30 seconds. If the camera struggles, the key always works.
Enter the current code
This proves the setup worked before we turn it on.
Or enter the key by hand
In your app choose Enter a setup key, then type:
Account name: anything you like
Type of key: Time based
This works even when the camera cannot read the code.
Save these backup codes now. They will not be shown again.
Each one works once, and only if you lose access to your phone.
Keep them in a password manager or somewhere physically safe —
not in the same place as your password.
